Samsung Mobile Breaking News – Government has ‘warning’ for Galaxy S23, other Samsung smart phone – CERT-In has issued a high-risk alert for Samsung Galaxy mobile phone users, urging them to promptly update their phone’s OS and security systems. The Union government has issued a new advisory for all the Samsung Galaxy mobile phone users, asking them to immediately update their security systems and operating system (OS) to protect themselves from cyber attacks and hacking.

The Indian government’s CERT-In (Computer Emergency Response Team) has issued a high-risk warning for Samsung mobile phone users, urging them to update their devices immediately. This alert highlights critical security vulnerabilities affecting Android versions 11, 12, 13, and 14, putting millions of users at risk.

The Centre has given additional security warnings this week to users of Samsung Galaxy phones. On December 13, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued a security advisory calling attention to various susceptibilities affecting several Samsung Galaxy phones.

A storm cloud has gathered over Samsung Mobile users in India, as the CERT-In (Computer Emergency Response Team of India) issued a high-risk warning highlighting critical security flaws in Android versions 11, 12, 13, and 14. This is no minor blip on the radar; these vulnerabilities are potent threats, posing a serious risk to your data and device security.

Imagine this: an attacker, armed with knowledge of these vulnerabilities, could infiltrate your phone like a covert ninja. They might bypass Knox, Samsung’s prized security fortress, and feast on your sensitive information, from contacts and messages to financial data. Scarier still, they could take control of your device, executing malicious code and wreaking havoc on your digital life.

CERT-In classified the vulnerabilities as high-risk and stressed the urgent need for Samsung users to upgrade their phones’ operating systems. Samsung Mobile Android versions 11, 12, 13, and 14 are vulnerable to such attacks, the report said. 

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued the high-risk security advisory on December 13, highlighting several security impacts on millions of Samsung Galaxy phones, with both newer and older models.

The category of concern for Samsung phones is “high-risk”, according to the advisory, and owners of these phones need to update their firmware of OS at the earliest.

Samsung Hacking Warning

According to the security note, these security flaws “may allow an attacker to trigger a heap overflow and stack-based buffer overflow, access device SIM PIN, send a broadcast with elevated privilege, read sandbox data of AR Emoji, bypass Knox Guard lock via changing system time, access arbitrary files, gain access to sensitive information, execute arbitrary code and compromise the targeted system,”

Failing to update the operating system (OS) of Samsung Galaxy phones could leave them susceptible to potential hazards. This gives hackers an opportunity to circumvent device security and gain unauthorised access to sensitive data. Hackers can snoop around user files and steal important information.

CERT said in its notification, “Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Samsung products that could allow an attacker to bypass implemented security restrictions, access sensitive information, and execute arbitrary code on the targeted system.”

The agency said that the risk in these phones is due to the improper access control flaw in the SmartManagerCN component of the OS. The solution to this is to apply appropriate security updates in your Samsung Galaxy phones, as mentioned by the company.

What could happen if you don’t follow CERT advisory?

Samsung Galaxy phone owners could be subjected to several risks if they don’t update their security and OS, as directed by CERT-In. Here are some vulnerabilities highlighted in the advisory by the government.

  • Steal phone’s secret code (SIM PIN)
  • Shout loud commands to phone (broadcast with elevated privilege)
  • Peek into private AR Emoji files
  • Change the clock on the castle gate (Knox Guard lock)
  • Snoop around phone’s files (access arbitrary files)
  • Steal important information (sensitive information)
  • Control the phone like a puppet (execute arbitrary code)

The advisory urged Samsung users to take immediate action to curtail these risks. Users were strongly advised to apply the security updates.

Samsung has denied to comment on the matter.

ut Samsung Security did acknowledge the threat via a notification on the site saying it has announced a rollout of security firmware along with Google’s Android patch in the upcoming update in December this year.

“Samsung Mobile is releasing a maintenance release for major flagship models as part of monthly Security Maintenance Release (SMR) process. This SMR package includes patches from Google and Samsung,” it stated.

The CERT-In report mentions the following threat:

  • Knox features, meant to be a bastion of security, suffer from improper access control. Think of it as a faulty lock on your vault, allowing unwanted guests to slip through.
  • Facial recognition, your gateway to unlocking your phone, is compromised by an integer overflow flaw. This technical jargon essentially means a mathematical loophole that attackers can exploit to bypass authentication.
  • The AR Emoji app, your playground for creating digital avatars, has authorisation issues. Imagine someone impersonating you in the virtual world, potentially causing reputational damage or worse.
  • Knox security software, your trusted bodyguard, stumbles with error handling. This is like your security guard falling asleep on the job, leaving you vulnerable to attack.
  • Memory corruption vulnerabilities lurk in various system components, like cracks in the walls of your digital fortress. Attackers can exploit these cracks to gain unauthorised access and wreak havoc.
  • The Smart Clip app, your handy clipboard manager, fails to validate user input. This is like leaving your door wide open for anyone to enter, potentially dropping malware onto your device.
  • Certain app interactions in contacts can be hijacked. The impact is widespread, affecting a vast range of Samsung devices, from the latest Galaxy S23 series to the popular Galaxy Flip 5 and Fold 5. This is no small-scale issue; millions of users could be at risk.

Here’s what you can do to stay safe:

  • Update your software immediately. Samsung has released patches to address these vulnerabilities. 
  • Keep your apps up to date. Outdated apps are easy targets for attackers. Update them regularly to plug any security holes.
  • Be cautious about the apps you install. Only download apps from trusted sources and scrutinise their permissions before installing.
  • Exercise caution when clicking on links. Don’t click on suspicious links, even if they appear to come from trusted sources.

Bifacial solar modules offer many advantages over traditional solar panels. Power can be produced from both sides of a bifacial module, increasing total energy generation. They’re often more durable because both sides are UV resistant, and potential-induced degradation (PID) concerns are reduced when the bifacial module is frameless. Balance of system (BOS) costs are also reduced when more power can be generated from bifacial modules in a smaller array footprint.

Some companies with bifacial modules currently on the market include LG, LONGi, Lumos Solar, Prism Solar, Silfab, Sunpreme, Trina Solar and Yingli Solar. As more manufacturers begin production, bifacial modules look to be a niche product entering the mainstream.

What is a bi facial solar module?

Bifacial modules produce solar power from both sides of the panel. Whereas traditional opaque-backsheeted panels are monofacial, bifacial modules expose both the front and backside of the solar cells. When bifacial modules are installed on a highly reflective surface (like a white TPO roof or on the ground with light-colored stones), some bifacial module manufacturers claim up to a 30% increase in production just from the extra power generated from the rear.

Bifacial modules come in many designs. Some are framed while others are frameless. Some are dual-glass, and others use clear backsheets. Most use monocrystalline cells, but there are polycrystalline designs. The one thing that is constant is that power is produced from both sides. There are frameless, dual-glass modules that expose the backside of cells but are not bifacial. True bifacial modules have contacts/busbars on both the front and back sides of their cells.

How are bifacial modules installed?

The way a bifacial module is mounted depends on its type. A framed bifacial module might be easier to install than frameless, just because traditional mounting and racking systems are already adapted to framed models. Most bifacial module manufacturers provide their own clamps to mount their specific brand, taking away any installation hesitations.

For frameless bifacial modules, the module clamps will often feature rubber guards to protect the glass, and special care must be taken to prevent overtightening bolts and damaging the glass.

The higher a bifacial module is tilted, the more power it produces from its bifacial properties. Bifacial modules mounted flush to a rooftop block any reflected light from reaching the backside of the cells. That’s why bifacial modules perform better on flat commercial rooftops and ground-mounted arrays, because there is more room for tilt and bouncing reflected light to the rear of the modules.

The mounting system itself can affect the performance of the bifacial modules. Racking systems with support rails usually covered by a monofacial module’s backsheet will shade back rows of bifacial cells. Junction Box on bifacial panels have become smaller or separated into multiple units positioned along the panel’s edge to prevent shading, too. Mounting and racking systems specially formatted for bifacial installations take out the question of backside shading.

What is the outlook for bifacial modules?

Last year, Vincent Ambrose, Canadian Solar’s general manager for North America, told Solar Power World that bifacial modules were really going to take off in the next few years.

“The challenge with bifacial has always been the unpredictability of the power output because it’s dependent upon the substrate behind the modules—a white commercial roof, a dark comp shingle, grass, gravel,” he said “It’s hard to model what the module is going to produce. The financing community is coming around on bifacial and the cost structure is coming down. We’ll be hearing more about that technology in the coming two or three years.”

Chinese panel manufacturer LONGi Solar believes we’re entering a new era of PV, one where high-efficiency modules are supreme. Bifacial technology supports the concept of using quality materials for high-energy yields.

“Bifacial modules are the future of the industry,” said Hongbin Fang, technical director of LONGi Solar. “It inherited all the advantages of mono PERC modules: high power density resulting in significant BOS savings, high energy yield with better low light performance and lower temperature coefficient. In addition, bifacial PERC modules also harvest energy from the rear side, demonstrating higher energy yield. We think bifacial PERC modules are the best approach to realize lower LCOE.”

In hot and humid climates, where electricity is scarce and not available most of the time due to regular power outages, solar modules seem to be the right choice for air conditioning.

If you are considering running your AC through Solar Panels

rather than electric grid power, then you are pursuing a more sustainable future.

However, just thinking about it won’t help you, you need to know whether it is possible and if it is, then how many solar panels you will need to run an AC.

One more thing you need to consider is whether your AC can run on solar modules alone or you will need a battery backup for the same.

Well, you don’t have to worry about any of these things. In today’s post, we’ll get into detail on “how many panels are needed to run an AC?”. Furthermore, you will also learn the importance of batteries.

So without any further delay, let’s dive right in!

Is it possible to run an AC on Solar Power?

In general, you can run AC with no problem as long as you have enough solar panels installed on your roof that capture sunlight and convert it to electricity smoothly without any interruptions.

Now that you know running an AC is possible on solar power, let’s get back to the main question of how many solar panels do you need to run an AC.

Well, to answer this question you need to take into consideration two basic factors, namely the kVA of the solar panel you will be using and the wattage of your AC.

More importantly, it doesn’t always depend on the number of solar panels you use but also on other factors like the capacity of the battery you are using and other factors like location and weather condition of that place matter too.

By taking basic assumptions that you live in a place with adequate sunlight throughout the day with sunny weather and you are using a 1 ton AC, then you will need a minimum of 8 to 10 solar panels (250-watt each) to run AC.

But if you assume that you will get roughly four hours of sunlight throughout the day then you will need a powerful battery with a capacity high enough to store electricity.

In order for AC to work properly, it requires continuous power, which is not possible with only solar panels alone. Without a battery, your AC will not run long.

In addition to this, you must have an alternate power source from the grid power so that when you run out of solar power, you can still run your AC without a break.

Know your AC Wattage

To be honest, the answer is very simple, just look into the energy

efficiency label that is attached to the body of your AC and you will find your answer.

But if we assume that you have an old AC and the label on that AC is not there anymore so in that case, you can use the method described below to find out your AC’s wattage.

To make this simple, I will take an example of an electric bulb of 50 W running for 50 hours so it will consume 50 watts multiplied by 50 hours = 2500 watt-hours that are equal to 2.5 Kilowatt-hour (kWh) = 2.5 unit electricity.

Another way of knowing your AC’s wattage is by using any third-party application that will give you the reading about the wattage your AC is consuming. You will find search applications from Amazon.

But the actual figure cannot always be accurate because the wattage depends on various factors like the size of the room, the number of people in the room, the temperature inside and outside of the room, and duration of use, and many other factors.

How many Solar Panels Do I Need to Run an AC?

It depends on what ton of AC you are using and what is kWh of the solar panels you are using.

We will look into it in detail below for different tons of AC. We assume that you will be using your AC for 4 hours a day on average.

For 1 Ton AC

If you want to know how many solar panels you need to run a 1 ton AC, then you need to know how much electricity your AC consumes then accordingly you will need that number of solar panels to generate that much electricity. 

Usually, a 1 ton AC consumes about 1100 to 1500 watts of electricity so you are going to need about 3 solar panels of 440-530 watts to generate that much electricity.

This is just to run the AC alone but if you want to run any other appliances along with your AC using solar power, then you are going to need more solar panels that will depend on the number of appliances and the total electricity wattage of those appliances.

For 1.5 Ton AC

A 1.5 ton AC consumes an average of about 2500 watts of electricity so to match this much electric consumption you are going to need 5 solar panels of 500 watts each to produce this much electricity.

In addition to this if you are thinking of getting an inverter, then you will need a 2.5 kVA grid inverter. 

Ten solar panels of 250 watts each will be enough to run a 1.5 ton AC if you already have ten solar panels installed to run other electrical applications then you are going to need an additional ten modules.

For 3 Ton AC

The average electricity consumption of a 3 ton AC is about 3000 to 3500 watts. So matching that much electric generation you will need 6 solar panels for 500 watt solar panels just to run AC alone.

Although it is not good to run a 3 ton AC fully on solar panels alone because it won’t be able to generate and supply continues to keep the AC running for a long time. 

So have your grid-wired electricity as a backup when there is not enough sunlight to keep the AC running.

Battery Requirements to Run AC at Night

Solar panels are there to help you run your AC throughout the day but when the sun goes down or on cloudy days when there is not enough sunlight then you are going to face problems if you don’t have a battery for electricity storage. You are going to need batteries to store the solar power and generate electricity to run the air conditioner during the night.

But the thing is, a different wattage of AC requires a different capacity of the battery. It is meaningless to use a high-capacity battery to run a 1 ton AC that doesn’t consume enough power.

If you are using an inverter along with the battery, then you won’t need a high-capacity battery because the load can be shared by the inverter.

So in conclusion depending upon the duration of your use of AC a 1.5-ton air conditioner requires four batteries of 150Ah to run AC for three to four hours without any problem.

If you want to run your AC for long periods, then you will have to increase the number of batteries.

These problems affect your AC and you need to incur additional costs for proper maintenance of your AC. But when you use solar-powered AC’s, it’s all automated using an inverter, thus reducing the cost of maintenance.

Oppo A97 5G को लॉन्च कर दिया गया है. इस स्मार्टफोन को दो कलर ऑप्शन में पेश किया गया है. Oppo की इस लेटेस्ट A-सीरीज स्मार्टफोन में डुअल रियर कैमरा सेटअप दिया गया है. इसका रिफ्रेश रेट 90Hz का है और इसमें Mediatek Dimensity 810 प्रोसेसर दिया गया है.

Oppo A97 5G को फिलहाल चीन में पेश किया गया है. इस फोन की कीमत CNY 1,999 (लगभग 23,600 रुपये) रखी गई है. ये कीमत इसके एकमात्र 12GB रैम और 256GB स्टोरेज वैरिएंट के लिए है. इसे चीनी ई-कॉमर्स साइट JD.com पर लिस्ट किया गया है. इसके भारत लॉन्च को लेकर कोई जानकारी नहीं दी गई है. इस फोन को डीप सी ब्लू और क्वाइट नाइट ब्लैक कलर ऑप्शन में उतारा गया है.
